  • Chief Financial Officer Meng Wanzhou arrives back at home after her court appearance in Vancouver

The CFO was arrested in December by Canadian authorities at the request of the United States and was charged with bank and wire fraud relating to the American Sanctions levied on Iran.

Howes also said double criminality is a core principle of the Canada-U.S. extradition treaty and Canadian extradition law, and Meng's arrest violated this principle.

A separate civil lawsuit launched by Ms. Meng alleges these border agents questioned her for three hours without advising her of her rights and unlawfully searched her electronic devices - including two cellphones, an iPad and a personal computer - before nearby Mounties arrested her.

The U.S. Department of Justice has accused Huawei of hiding behind a linked company, Skycom, to mask its operations in Iran and accused Meng of repeatedly lying to Huawei's banking partners about the relationship with Skycom, which they described as a "partner".

Huawei said in a statement on Wednesday that the criminal case against Meng was "guided by political considerations and tactics, not by the rule of law".

After her arrest, China detained the former Canadian diplomat Michael Kovrig and the businessman Michael Spavor in what observers saw as retaliation. Thus Ms. Meng intends to apply to this Court for a stay of the extradition proceedings.

Meng will next appear in court on September 23, when her defense will make more applications for more disclosure.

Huawei and Skycom are also defendants in the US case, accused of bank and wire fraud, as well as violating USA sanctions on Iran.

China has accused Canada of abetting "a political persecution" against its biggest technology company and has demanded the release of Meng.

The main focus of Wednesday's appearance, set for 10 a.m. Vancouver time, is to schedule subsequent court dates, including those related to any legal applications that Meng's team plans to bring forward ahead of extradition hearings, according to a statement from Canada's justice department.

The bank and wire fraud charges do not meet that criteria because Meng is accused of misrepresenting HSBC to engage in transactions that violate USA sanctions laws, the lawyers said. Cole was the US deputy attorney general from 2011 to 2015, a period which coincides with when the Justice Department was collecting evidence in the fraud and sanctions-related case.

Beijing in March vowed to continue its support for Huawei and Meng in "seeking legal redress to protect their own interests and refusing to be victimized like silent lambs". -China trade negotiations showed the case against her might be politically motivated.

Shenzhen: Chinese telecom giant Huawei have said that they have full confidence in their Chief Financial Officer's innocence over allegations of breaching bans regarding deals with Iran.

Chinese police also detained two Canadian citizens after Meng's arrest.

"The existing home is a corner lot, exposed on three sides, there isn't clarity between public and private portions", one of Meng's defence lawyers, David Martin, told the court.

As well, the judge allowed a surety substitution, as one of Meng's sureties who had put up their house as part of her bail has to sell their home.
