  • A passenger plane is seen on fire after an emergency landing at the Sheremetyevo Airport outside Moscow Russia

Several passengers onboard the plane escaped through the plane's emergency slides that inflated after emergency landing went haywire.

The plane had to make an emergency landing at the airport in Moscow.

The plane's manufacturer, Sukhoi Civil Aircraft, said the aircraft had received maintenance last month.

Russian Federation sees no reason to ground its domestically produced Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft despite one of the planes bursting into flames during a crash-landing and killing 41 people, the country's transport minister said on Monday. As the Russian jet skidded down the runway, it burst into flames, trailed by smoke.

"You could see the fire [outside]".

A second video soon emerged that suggests that the plane may not have caught fire until the aircraft bounced violently during the landing attempt, and seemingly caused the main landing gear to collapse.

However, once again passengers insisted on taking bags off with them, potentially slowing the evacuation process. "I grabbed them by the collar".

In a shocking and tragic news, 41 people have been killed in a Sukhoi Superjet 100 which was flying from Moscow to Murmansk after the superjet crash landed immediately after takeoff. As a result, the crew declared an emergency and returned to the airport.

Russian media have quoted the pilot of the airliner as saying the plane was without radio communications because of a lightning strike.

Survivor Petr Egorov said: 'We took off and lightning hit the plane.

Video shared on social media shows the plane coming down for a hard landing.

Plucky Tatyana Kasatkina grabbed passengers by their collars and flung them out onto the tarmac as flames consumed the doomed jet. However, it rose sharply later, as Russian emergency workers retrieved bodies of the dead people from the burning wreckage. It took firefighters more than an hour to reach passengers in the tail section. The latest tally showed 37 had survived.

Aeroflot and Sheremetyevo airport on Monday expressed "deep regret" over the plane fire tragedy.

Some Russian news reports cited sources as saying the plane headed back to the airport after a fire was detected in flight.

Most of Aeroflot's 255 passenger aircraft are from Boeing and Airbus. The carrier has ordered another 100, which are scheduled to be delivered between 2019 and 2026.

But the plane has been troubled in the past by concerns over problems with its horizontal stabilizers.

The model entered service in 2011 and was the first new passenger jet developed in Russian Federation since the fall of the Soviet Union.

The death toll from an Aeroflot plane fire has risen to 41, according to a statement issued by investigators.

Officials have confirmed that at least 11 people were injured, including some hospitalised with burns.

Aeroflot has announced it will fly the relatives of the victims to Moscow for free so that they can see their loved ones.
