  • UFC 235 8 burning questions around Jones-Smith Woodley Usman title fights

After a canceled UFC 233 and a UFC 234 event that lost its main event at the last minute, the UFC looks to put on a big night of action with a stacked UFC 235 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Although the general consensus remains that Jones is one of the best fighters to ever step foot inside the octagon, his troubles with substance abuse and constant suspensions remain a powerful asterisk next to his accomplishments. After a Fight of the Night against Thiago Santos at middleweight, Smith moved up to light heavyweight.

Although his system still isn't clean, Jones' eyes are finally dry heading into UFC 235. But Jones has been swarmed in controversy over the last few years, especially when it comes to drug testing.

A lot of what Usman effectively did in the dos Anjos fight will be very hard to replicate against Tyron Woodley.

"I don't have to do as many title fights as he did to prove that", Woodley said. "(Smith was) saying like, 'That was nice, ' or, 'Was that all you've got?"'

Smith could have taken a DQ win, but turned it down to continue into the fifth round.

Ultimately the foul didn't really matter as Jones was in complete control with no signs of giving Smith an inch to forge a comeback.

Smith (31-14) had a modicum of success early by trading relatively even with Jones in the opening round until a series of spinning back kicks to the body saw Jones begin the process of wearing him down.

Victory extended Jones' undefeated record in world title fights to 13 as he successfully defended his title for the first time since recapturing the belt from Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 232 in December. "Some days you're going to look awesome, and some days at work you're not going to perform at the level you hold yourself to". "With that said, hats off to Anthony Smith. Now I see why they call him 'Lionheart, '" Jones said. Then all of a sudden I'm getting passed up for a guy behind me. "He did a great job". Askren never betrayed much dissatisfaction with his situation, praising the promotions that employed him while the UFC ignored him.

"Despite whatever I go through, in my past or in my future I will always keep my chin up high and believe that where there is a will there is a way and there is always going to be light at the end of the tunnel", Jones told Hindustan Times in an exclusive interview. "There's a lot of young talent in the UFC, so many guys looking unbelievable". With new UFC welterweight prospect Ben Askren fighting this Saturday and other contenders fighting later this month like Darren Till and Jorge Masvidal it is unclear who will get the next shot.

Smith continued after the illegal knee and said he didn't want to win by disqualification.

Instead, Jones was deducted two points for the one offence which just goes to show how seriously the referee took the foul and "Bones" was warned going into the final round that any further indiscretions would not be tolerated.
