General manager Jon Robinson remedied that issue Friday, bringing longtime Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill aboard. The Dolphins are receiving a seventh-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft and a 2020 fourth-round pick. In Tennessee, Tannehill will back up starter Marcus Mariota.

Two great quarterbacks but maybe not quite what the Dolphins are looking for.

Per Adam Schefter, the Dolphins will pay $5 million of the guaranteed money with a signing bonus. The Dolphins haven't really been linked to many quarterbacks in the upcoming 2019 NFL Draft, but that's largely a result of where they're picking.

His contract was to balloon to $18.7 million in base salary this year, and he would have counted $26.6 million against the salary cap. But they did get trade value out of a player they were set to release this offseason.

The Titans also received a 2019 sixth-round pick in the swap.

Tannehill's departure from Miami had been expected. But he didn't have enough of them and then injuries really hit, including an ACL injury that wiped out his 2017 season. Now the Titans have multiple options, both for the short- and long-term. The main remaining question from the trade might be, who plays quarterback for the Dolphins this season? He had a wildly uneven season a year ago that ended badly.

Tannehill threw for 230 passing yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions in Miami's 27-20 win over the Titans in Week One of the 2018 season.
