Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison described the suspected attacker as an "extremist right-wing violent terrorist".

My warmest sympathy and best wishes goes out to the people of New Zealand after the awful massacre in the Mosques.

One shooter live-streamed the attack on Facebook and stated the phrase of subscribe to PewDiePie in the opening minutes to which PewDiePie addressed publicly and offered his condolences to everyone affected by the horrific attack.

"We have taken down the account of the alleged perpetrator and are working to actively remove all versions of the video from Twitter", a Twitter spokesman said, according to BuzzFeed reporter Ryan Mac.

Ardern said, "These are people who I would describe as having extremist views, that have absolutely no place in New Zealand".

The tragedy was all posted to social media after the suspected shooter live-streamed the attack at the Cathedral Square Mosque, where more than 300 people were said to be inside for Friday prayers in the city of Christchurch.

New Zealand's Police Commissioner Mike Bush said four people-three men and a woman-had been taken into custody but it was not clear if the gunman was among them or if other people were involved.

Earlier New Zealand's Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern put the number at 40. PM Ardern added that the country was "enduring one of its darkest days".

"The person who has perpetuated this violence against us is not".

The Federation of Islamic Associations of New Zealand (FIANZ) today urged Mulims to "remain calm and display common sense" in the wake of the country's deadliest mass shooting.

"Please do not try and come and collect your children until police say it is safe for people to come into the central city", they said. Police said the second mosque attacked was in the suburb of Linwood, but gave no details.

The gunman said he was not a member of any organization, acted alone and chose New Zealand to show that even the most remote parts of the world were not free of "mass immigration".
