Khawaja ton guides Australia to 272-9 in deciding ODI

Australia beat India by 35 runs to win the fifth and final ODI on Wednesday and secure a 3-2 victory in the series.

The likes of Glenn Maxwell, Stoinis and Ashton Turner all failed to deliver significant innings with the bat, but it mattered little as the bowlers turned on the style to seal Australia's first series win in India since 2009.

Now, it is hard to understand if Kohli was just referring to this match or the World Cup too, when he said playing three front-line seamers, Kuldeep Yadav and two all-rounders is India's "most balanced" side.

First time India have lost a five-match bilateral ODI series after leading 2-0.

Well, what can we say, Major General Ghafoor does love his cricket.

"But the fight that we showed, we've had our backs against the wall for quite a while now so I'm really proud of the group".

Usman Khawaja struck his second century in three matches - and a third-straight score of 90 plus - as the visitors first put 272-9 on the board, before an Adam Zampa-led attack skittled India for 237 in reply, the legspinner claiming 3-46 from his 10 overs. Former Aussie Test seamer Trent Copeland wrote on Twitter: "Seriously incredible result from 2-0 down away from home". It was yet another dismal performance from a team which has been tipped as the favourites to win the upcoming World Cup.

Virat Kohli wasn't offering any excuses at the end of India's 3-2 ODI series defeat at the hands of Australia.

India to clash with Australia in 5th ODI on March 13

Khawaja hit yet another century in the fifth and final ODI to give Australia a series win over India.

"We always seem to peak around the World Cup", he said post-match.

But it was yesterday when Major General Ghafoor brought the house down with his tweet: "Very well played yet again Usman Khawaja".

A seventh-wicket stand of 91 runs between Kedar Jadhav and Bhuvneshwar Kumar created some nervous moments for Australia but it was snapped by Cummins in the 46th over.

The left-hander started the series turnaround with a maiden ODI ton in Ranchi and bettered Kohli to finish the leading run-scorer of the series, all but cementing his spot in the 15-man World Cup squad. A lot of hate was also directed at Shikhar Dhawan, who save for the fourth match, had a lacklustre series. "Usman Khawaja also has been fantastic, having not played much of white-ball cricket, in the last 12 months".

The series against Australia, who triumphed against the odds despite the absence of batsmen David Warner and Steve Smith, was the last time the Indian side will play together before then, with the players now due to join their IPL sides.

A delighted Justin Langer credited his players for a tough series win over India and said that they have made the selectors' job tougher ahead of the World Cup."All the credit goes to the players, we can only make plans but they have to go and perform in crunch situations".
