Huawei sues the United States for stopping Government Agencies

Guo said the USA government has failed to provide evidence on it being a security threat, and has convinced other countries to not use its products.

Guo Ping, one of the firm's chairmen, accused the U.S. of smearing the telecoms giant as he confirmed that Huawei would challenge a law that blocks United States executive agencies from using its equipment.

"The US Government is sparing no effort to smear the company and mislead the public", said Mr Guo in a news briefing at Huawei's headquarters in southern China.

"Huawei are prepared to take this legal action as a proper and last resort".

As the trade talks drag on, with few outward signs of significant progress, a bipartisan group of Senators, including Texas Republican Senator John Cornyn, are calling for expanding the ban on Huawei equipment so it can not be used in US energy infrastructure.

The lawyer for a senior executive of Chinese tech giant Huawei arrested in Canada said comments by U.S. President Trump suggest the case against her is politically motivated.

The ban is "based on numerous false, unproven and untested propositions", said Song Liuping, the company's chief legal officer, at the news conference. "No contrary evidence has been offered", he said.

Huawei Technologies Co. sued the US government for barring its equipment from certain networks, delivering a legal riposte to American accusations it aids China in espionage. "Huawei has an excellent security record and program".

China receives about 40 per cent of Canada's canola exports, and the revocation of Richardson's permit hurts the entire value chain of industries involved in the market, the Canola Council of Canada has said.

The Chinese government says Washington fabricates or exaggerates security concerns to block competition. The 5G telecommunication can be deemed as an improvement that Huawei was slated to lead.

That provision bars any executive agency, government contractor or company that receives a government loan or grant from using Huawei and ZTE equipment, according to the complaint. The company has announced contracts with customers including the United Arab Emirates for network technology. Meng was arrested December 1 in Canada on an extradition request, but released on bail December 10 and put under house arrest.

In the escalating diplomatic row with Canada, China has detained two Canadians working in China, and on Monday accused one of them of stealing Chinese state secrets passed on to him by the other. That followed the Canadian government's announcement Friday that the extradition proceeding would be allowed to continue.

Washington has long considered Huawei a potential threat, fears originally centring on the background of founder Ren Zhengfei, a former Chinese army engineer. Under the country's national intelligence law, it would be required to cooperate with Chinese authorities if asked. Huawei has repeatedly denied the claims.

Though more broad, it's likely that the USA government ban will have a similar effect on Huawei there; with all the large carriers likely to provide services to the U.S. government in some shape or form, they are effectively prevented from including any Huawei equipment in their service offering.
