Horror haunted Bangladesh cricket players fly home from New Zealand

The Bangladesh cricket team was faced with a rather precarious situation yesterday in the Christchurch city of New Zealand.

The Bangladesh cricket team arrived home in Dhaka on Saturday, a day after narrowly escaping the mosque attack that killed 49 people in New Zealand.

Bangladesh's cricket team has been left stunned after seeing "bloodstained people staggering out of the mosque" in Christchurch.

The national Bangladesh team have been in New Zealand, taking part in a three test match series.

Local media said there were multiple casualties at one mosque and that another had been evacuated. The bus was hardly 50 yards far from the mosque and players were anxious about their lives inside while thinking how they would safely get out of the vehicle.

"The militants and terrorists have no religion, country or nation". They initially stayed in the bus and made phone calls, including one to this reporter, who was at the ground.

Bangladesh, with its hectic efforts, managed to save the country from militancy and terrorism.

Players and coaching staff were 50 yards from the Al Noor mosque in Christchurch when the shooting began. I was in shock too, so I couldn't say much to them.

While the Highlanders and Crusaders match was called off, the Waikato Chiefs and Wellington Hurricanes had played their match in Hamilton on Friday, but All Blacks' scrumhalf TJ Perenara admitted the players' minds had also been elsewhere. The second attack took place at the Linwood mosque about 5 kilometres (3 miles) away.

Isam said the team had been on a bus that had gone to the mosque around the time of the attack.

Six members of the team were wounded, while six security personnel and two civilians were killed.

Friday afternoon turned out to be a moment of absolute horror for the people offering prayers at two mosques in New Zealand's Christchurch after some gunmen opened fire at the venues. The need for love in our country has never been higher and I send all of mine to the victims, their family and friends, the Muslim community and every other heartbroken New Zealander.
