  • Gonzalo Higuain has endured a difficult spell on loan at Milan

On-loan from Juventus, Higuain is wanted by Chelsea - a situation that irks Leonardo.

Chelsea are continuing their efforts to sign AC Milan striker Gonzalo Higuain, according to reports from England.

Spanish newspaper Marca is reporting that Higuain could be set for a reunion with Maurizio Sarri, who has previously worked with the Argentina striker at Napoli.

Higuain is on-loan at AC Milan from Juventus, which makes the deal a hard one to negotiate, especially in January.

Sources have told ESPN FC that Sarri wants that man to be Higuain, with AC Milan willing to cut short the Argentine's loan from Juventus after just eight months and just six goals in 15 Serie A appearances this season.

The Argentina worldwide set a new Serie A goal-scoring record under Sarri at the Stadio San Paolo in the 2015/16 campaign with 36 goals.

He scored 91 goals during his three years at the club before moving to Juventus in 2016 when the Turin club activated his 90 million-euro buyout clause.

"It is hard to manage a striker when he doesn't score", said Milan sporting director Leonardo.

"He had a tough moment, he has to put it behind him and get to work".

"There's no point following rumours and gossip".

"To date, Milan knows that Higuain had problems but made him understand that if he remains he must play and take responsibility".

"He is here right now".

His age aside, his wage demands aside, the difficulty of negotiating with two teams aside, Higuain scores goals, and Chelsea need goals.
