Bush received Sully in June from America's VetDogs nonprofit organization.

"As much as our family is going to miss this dog, we're comforted to know he'll bring the same join to his new home, Walter Reed, that he brought to 41", George W. Bush said on Instagram.

- He was trained through the prison puppy program, in which inmates raise future service dogs until the dog is about 15 months old. "President Bush was such an wonderful man yet there is a sense of peace knowing that he and Barbara are together again and with Robin and just that it was time for him".

President Bush had been receiving treatment for a form of Parkinson's disease and had been admitted to hospital with a blood infection in April.
