He will appear in Parramatta court on the December 6.

Chris Dawson, the husband of missing Sydney woman Lynette Dawson and subject of popular true crime podcast Teacher's Pet, has been arrested on Queensland's Gold Coast this morning.

In 2015, NSW Police established Strike Force Scriven to re-investigate the circumstances surrounding Dawson's disappearance and suspected murder. Meanwhile, Chris continued to deny he was involved in the disappearance and likely death of his wife.

Police confirmed that on Wednesday, Dawson was taken arrested at his house in Coolum on the Gold Coast.

Dressed in a t-shirt, shorts and thongs, the 70-year-old was led off the plane by detectives and driven from the tarmac straight to Sydney Police Centre in Surry Hills, where he was charged.

NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller said Ms Dawson's family was relieved after being told of the arrest.

"We won't give up on trying to identify the whereabouts of Lynette Dawson, but, from our perspective, it is not crucial to finalising the matter".

Commissioner Fuller said fresh information from witnesses this week provided a breakthrough in the case.

"They were predominantly statements from witnesses that helped us tie pieces of the puzzle together", he said.

A spokesman for Chris Dawson's family said they are "disappointed" in yesterday's explosive developments, and claimed there was "clear and uncontested" evidence Lyn was alive long after she disappeared.

Following extensive investigations, detectives requested the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions review their brief of evidence in April this year. He said depending on the court process, he could be bailed to a Sydney court in three or four weeks.

He said media reports had contributed to officers gaining additional statements relating to the disappearance.

Her body has never been found.

Detectives in September dug up the backyard at the Bayview home the couple shared in the early 1980s but did not find her remains or items of interest.

Since Lynette's disappearance, Dawson claimed she had run away to life with a religious cult in a remote area of NSW.

An inquest in 2003 found that Mr Dawson, a former high school teacher and rugby league star, had engaged in sexual relationships with teenage students during his marriage.

In September, investigators dug up the Bayview home for nearly a week but said they found no human remains and no significant clues.
