  • Labour MP Lloyd Russell-Moyle tells House of Commons he is HIV positive

While the annual number of new HIV infections in other World Health Organization regions is declining, in WHO's Eastern Mediterranean Region the number of new HIV infections has been increasing in recent years.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of World AIDS Day.

The fight against HIV is not just about the virus, it is also trying to stop the ignorance and discrimination that people living with HIV can face, which can limit their opportunities and prevent them from living full and happy lives.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn was present when Mr Russell-Moyle made the announcement, of which he felt "relieved" to have done so.

"If people don't know their HIV status, people who are living with HIV can't start treatment, and people who are HIV-negative can't get the knowledge and skills they need to keep that way".

"Understanding that I was unable to transmit HIV sexually has been life-changing."

The CDC really needs to be more careful and inclusive in its statements and policies on HIV and AIDS, Weinstein concluded.

He talked about the impact of the stigma surrounding HIV and how that stigma affects people in the LGBTQ community.

Prince Harry has young people at the heart of so many initiatives, and Sentebale's upcoming campaign puts them front and centre once again for a very important cause.

The UNSW research also shows the persistence of stigma toward people most likely to be exposed to HIV.

Lloyd Russell-Moyle, 32, told his fellow lawmakers that he had been diagnosed HIV positive when he was aged 22.

A British member of parliament was being praised after disclosing in the House of Commons that he is HIV positive. "You have a million things running through your mind and, at the same time, a sense of absolute nothingness".

On Friday, November 30th, AtlantiCare officials held their annual World AIDS Day ceremony to honor individuals who have lost their lives to HIV and AIDS, and those living with the disease. According to HIV organisation Terrence Higgins Trust, "this means the levels of HIV are so low that the virus can not be passed on".

For activists like Perry Junjulas, World AIDS Day is a moment to celebrate.
