The magnum opus, which has released in 10,000 screens worldwide, recorded box office collections of Rs 70 crore on the opening day, across Hindi, Tamil and Telugu versions. In just 2 days, the Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar-starrer has earned Rs 135 crore pan India and 55 crore overseas, making it a grand total of Rs 190 crore. Akshay Kumar, who debuted in the role of an antagonist in southern cinema, was seen playing an ornithologist who, when loses his fight to telecom companies while trying to save birds from dying from the emission of mobile towers, uses the fifth force to wreak havoc and take revenge. The film is written and directed S. Shankar.

The film also stars Amy Jackson and Sudhanshu Pandey in pivotal roles.

The weekend collection for the film is expected to be high as advanced bookings for the shows continue. Although the film has declined on Day 2, the biz should gather momentum on Day 3 [Sat] and Day 4 [Sun]... Thursday ₹20.25 cr. India biz.

With third day box office collection for 2.0 from overseas and South Indian market, the film could easily get past the Rs 250 crore-mark even before its first weekend is over.

The film is being shot simultaneously in Tamil and Hindi respectively.

Rajinikanth's science fiction flick "2.0" continued its steady march at the box office on day two.

Filmmaker Shankar's recently-released 2.0 is the costliest Indian movie made on an extravagant budget of over Rs 500 crore. Note: "HINDI version", tweeted movie critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh.
