The provocative actions of three Ukrainian naval ships in the Black Sea has continued for some five hours, the FSB noted earlier on Sunday, adding that it was doing everything possible to put an end to the aggressive moves by Kiev.

"Such actions pose a threat to the security of all states in the Black Sea region", the statement said, "and therefore require a clear response from the global community". "These materials will soon be made public".

"Russian coast guard vessels (...) carried out openly aggressive actions against Ukrainian navy ships" during the transit, the Ukrainian navy statement said. A tugboat was also seized.

"The ships of the Ukrainian Navy continue to perform tasks in compliance with all norms of worldwide law", the Ukrainian Navy said in a statement said.

Dmitry Kiselyov, a commentator on the state-controlled Rossiya channel, told viewers of his Sunday evening news program that Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko - encouraged by the US - is looking to pick a fight with Russian Federation in the Black Sea.

There was no immediate response to the allegation from Russian Federation.

The statement said a group of Ukrainian Navy vessels were attacked by Russian coast guard ships as they were leaving the 12-mile zone of the Kerch Strait - which links the Sea of Azov and the Black Sea. Videos coming from the scene show a cargo ship, accompanied by two Russian military boats blocking the passage under the arch of the Kerch Bridge, which connects Crimea to Russia.

Two Ukrainian navy artillery boats and a tugboat were transiting from Odessa on the Black Sea to Mariupol in the Sea of Azov, via the Kerch Strait, a narrow passage between Crimea and the Russian mainland.

Ukraine has increased the number of navy ships and border guard patrols in the Sea of Azov, which is reached via the Kerch Strait between Crimea and Russian Federation.

Both countries accused each other of breaking global law after Russian border guards tried and failed to stop two Ukrainian armoured artillery vessels circumnavigating Crimea en route to a Ukrainian port.

"Today at 11.30 [08:30 GMT] the border guard service of Russia's FSB registered the advancement of two Gurza-class artillery armored boats from the port of Berdyansk".
