The reason why they broke up the body is to make it dissolve more easily.

Turkish prosecutors plan to seek the extradition of 18 suspects in the slaying of Saudi writer Jamal Khashoggi so they can be prosecuted.

On Thursday, Washington Post CEO Fred Ryan dedicated an award speech to Khashoggi, and called upon the U.S. government to immediately suspend weapons sales to Saudi Arabia.

Nonetheless, I must add that our friendship with Riyadh, which goes back a long time, doesn't mean we will turn a blind eye to the premeditated murder that unfolded in front of our very eyes.

Saudi Arabia, for its part, has kept quiet on the location of the body as Turkey and the global community demand answers.

Al-Masry Al-Youm cited Anadolu Agency coverage of the Turkish prosecutor saying: "We have been informed that the fate of the body can be revealed in the result of interrogations to be conducted jointly in Saudi Arabia, as well as to determine whether the killing of Jamal Khashoggi was planned or not".

Hatice Cengiz, Khashoggi's fiancee had said she was "extremely disappointed" with United States response.

"As responsible members of the worldwide community, we must reveal the identities of the puppet-masters behind Khashoggi's killing and discover those in whom Saudi officials - still trying to cover up the murder - have placed their trust", Erdogan noted.

"Jamal Khashoggi was not a risky person in any way possible".

The "only logical conclusion" was that those who had killed the Saudi journalist in Istanbul had destroyed his body "to leave no trace behind", he said. Since then, Saudi Arabia's original story of the murder has been repeatedly altered and retrofitted to match the version of events presented by Turkish officials.

His body has not been found and an aide to President Erdogan, Yasin Aktay, has said he believes it was dissolved in acid after being cut up.

Trump sent Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to Riyadh and Ankara in October for talks with both regimes' leaders over Khashoggi, and even dismissed the Saudi response to the columnist's death as "one of the worst cover-ups" in history.

The Saudi chief prosecutor arrived in Turkey on Sunday to meet with his Turkish counterpart.

But his article made no mention of the king's son, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who is seen as the kingdom's de-facto ruler.

The prince said Khashoggi, 59, was a member of the Muslim Brotherhood, a Middle East group Bolton and members of the Trump administration considers terrorists.

It is as if Saudi officials are stalling, Erdogan said. "We can't ignore this because we want to sell more weapons", said Ahmed Bedier of United Voices for America, a USA -based civil society group.

Egypt and Somalia, are the only African countries that have backed the measures being taken by Saudi Arabia to investigate the case.

Erdogan, in an op-ed piece in the newspaper, said he did not believe "for a second" that King Salman had ordered "the hit" on Khashoggi and he also refrained from directly accusing the crown prince.

On Wednesday, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo described it as a violation of worldwide law, while France said not enough was being done to find those responsible.
