So how has Saudi Arabia changed its story since Khashoggi's disappearance was first reported?

Mr. Khashoggi, a US resident who fled Saudi Arabia past year, was an outspoken critic of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

"He extended his condolences to the family of the slain journalist".

"Adel al-Jubeir told Fox News on Sunday that those responsible will be held accountable for "this huge and grave mistake".

On Saturday Riyadh said he was killed in a fistfight in the consulate. They are said to have threatened him with being drugged and kidnapped and then killed him in a chokehold when he resisted.

Khashoggi, a United States resident, entered the consulate on October 2 to obtain documents that would clear the way for his impending marriage to fiancee Hatice Cengiz but never emerged.

Following a telephone conversation between Saudi Arabia's King Salman and Donald Trump, the U.S. president told reporters that the king had denied all knowledge of Khashoggi's disappearance.

Britain joined forces with France and Germany yesterday with a joint statement condemning the killing of journalists as unacceptable.

Britain will not cut off ties with Saudi Arabia despite the desert kingdom's failure to produce a credible account of a dissident journalist's death, a Cabinet minister said. Some Turkish employees reportedly said they were instructed not to go to work around the time that Khashoggi disappeared.

The Saudis have laid out different versions of the circumstances that led to the death of Khashoggi, a Washington Post columnist and critic of Saudi Crown Prince, who was not seen after entering the consulate in Istanbul, Turkey, on October 2.

Reflecting global scepticism over its account, a senior Saudi government official has laid out a new version that in key respects contradicts previous explanations.

Sources have told MEE that Khashoggi was tortured, murdered and dismembered by a hit squad of 15 Saudis sent to Istanbul to kill him.

CNN said it obtained the law enforcement surveillance video that appears to show Madani leaving the diplomatic mission through the back door, wearing Khashoggi's clothes, a fake beard and glasses.

Saudi authorities have said Khashoggi died in an "altercation" with Saudi officials at the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul on October 2. Turkish sources say authorities have an audio recording purportedly documenting Khashoggi's murder.

On Sunday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he will make a statement on Khashoggi's killing on Tuesday during his party's group meeting at the parliament.

Erdogan has remained largely silent on the case, although Turkey's pro-government newspapers have released information about events at the consulate. Saudi Arabia is Germany's second-largest weapons customer, according to official data reported by German news agency DPA.

At the beginning of Jones' questions on Saudi Arabia, he told Kushner: "you've got, also on your plate, the Middle East". We are determined to find out all the facts.

Saudi Arabia said on Saturday that Khashoggi was involved in "a physical confrontation, which resulted in his death".

"Obviously, if [the crown prince] has gone forth and murdered this journalist, he's now crossed the line, and there has to be a punishment and a price paid for that", said Corker, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
