  • Three elementary school children were killed at a Tippecanoe Valley bus stop in Indiana Tuesday

A 9-year-old girl and her twin 6-year-old brothers were killed early Tuesday in IN when a pickup truck struck them as they were preparing to board a school bus.

An Indiana woman has been arrested for her alleged involvement in a vehicle crash that killed three children and wounded an 11-year-old boy, according to police.

All three children who were killed reportedly were from the same family. That child, Maverik Lowe, was in critical condition at a Fort Wayne hospital and was undergoing surgery. He suffered multiple broken bones and other injuries. "As children crossed the road, to get on the bus, four children were allegedly hit by a southbound 2017 Toyota Tacoma" driven by Shepherd.

Investigators say around 7:15 a.m. the children's Tippecanoe Valley school bus had its "STOP" arm out on North State Road 25 in Rochester.

And now the uncle of those children is speaking out, saying the family previously told the school their bus pickup location is unsafe.

Indiana State Police Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Fulton County Sheriff's Department, the Rochester School Corporation, the Rochester and Mentone Fire Departments, Lutheran EMS and the Fulton County Coroner's Office.

Tippecanoe Valley High School said in a statement that "our school corporation has suffered a tragedy this morning".

Police said the bus had its stop sign deployed. Tony Slocum of the Indiana State Police said, according to NBC in Chicago.

Counselors have been made available to staff, students and parents in the school district, officials said. "I ask Hoosiers around the state to join us by sending your deepest prayers for the strength needed to endure such a time".

'Words can not express the depth of sorrow Janet and I feel, which only pales in comparison to what family, friends, teachers, classmates and community are feeling right now.
