Woodward defends using unnamed sources in White House book

Members of President Donald Trump's cabinet denied that they are the source of an anonymous op-ed in the New York Times that says there's a secret "resistance" in the White House plotting to derail numerous president's actions.

The piece called Trump's leadership style "impetuous, adversarial, petty and ineffective", said the president makes "half-baked, ill-informed and occasionally reckless decisions", and claimed that "many" senior administration officials "are working diligently from within to frustrate parts of his agenda and his worst inclinations". Dems can't stand losing. "Some of the things Trump did and does jeopardize the real national security".

Christie fired back that it's an "outrageous statement" to suggest someone should be ashamed for working in the Trump White House.

But the controversy is unlikely to ease in the week ahead.

"You look at the operation of this White House and you have to say, 'Let's hope to God we don't have a crisis, '" Woodward said in an interview that aired Sunday on "CBS Sunday Morning". It wasn't hard to figure out what the president was referring to: he views the op-ed as treasonous and has also described the senior official as a "traitor". It would also tarnish America's image in the world and could offer openings to adversaries if the White House is constantly distracted. The opinion piece is a different matter. "We see a general, the secretary of defense, ordered to kill another leader - a leader of another country - who turns to everybody after the phone is hung up and says, 'I'm not gonna do that".

"And I suspect that it is going to move voters at the margins. Sometimes it takes time". " 'I'm taking this book with a grain of salt & everyone should do the same". "It gives a date, it gives a time, who participates, most often the president himself and what he says". "If they are that senior administration official, they are violating an oath not to the President, but to the Constitution". The president's manifest unfitness has been, for some time, evident to all but the most blinkered and those with a vested interest in denying what could not be more obvious. Mattis is reported to have compared the Commander in Chief's petulant style to a "fifth grader", while Kelly called him an "idiot" according to Woodward's book.

It has been clear for some time that Trump was unlikely to agree to a voluntary interview. After all, he is effectively calling for the government's instruments of criminal investigation to be brought to bear against someone who has committed no obvious crime.

"I don't have any desire to beat this President up, but it's pretty clear that this White House is a reality-show, soap-opera presidency", Sasse, a frequent Trump critic said on NBC's "Meet the Press". There is nothing like good dialogue from two people that like each other!

At the end of the day, for all the sturm and drang of the last few days, it's true that we haven't learned anything all that new. "Family members of the 28,000 people there, '" he said. He said Trump has been "on the same wavelength" as congressional Republicans on taxes, regulations and court appointments.
