The Trump administration issued a series of new sanctions on the embattled regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad ahead of what US officials believe is an "imminent attack" by the regime with help from Russian Federation and Iran, according to an announcement by the Treasury Department. As photographers took pictures of the three leaders Rouhani, smiling, reached for both of their hands.

Northwestern Idlib province and surrounding areas are home to about 3 million people - almost half of them civilians displaced from other parts of Syria. At least one person was killed and several others wounded.

At the same time, the Assad regime has a history of trading with the terror group", Treasury Secretary Steven MnuchinSteven Terner MnuchinTurkey's Erdoğan: "U.S. behaving like "wild wolves" amid sanctions Senate delays Amazon hearing pending Postal Service review: "report Trump moves toward public report on Postal Service overhaul by year's end MORE said in a statement.

Turkish newspaper Sabah Gazetesi leaked highlights of the Turkish proposal on Idlib, indicating that Erdogan will propose a plan that would see Turkish forces on the ground who are already manning checkpoints around Idlib oversee the dissolution of 12 armed groups, including the former al Qaeda-affiliated group HTS. That also includes an estimated 10,000 hardcore fighters, including al-Qaida-linked militants.

The source said there were assurances to the leaders of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards that the operations would begin within days after Russian Federation began air strikes on the province.

"Assad's brutal regime - backed by Russian Federation and Iran - can not continue to attack and terrorize Syria's citizens".

The three presidents, whose countries' are key foreign players in Syria's long civil war, were speaking at a summit in Tehran aimed at charting a way to end the conflict.

For Turkey, the stakes couldn't be higher. United Nations officials warned this week of a humanitarian catastrophe if a military offensive in Idlib moves forward. Jefrey said the goal is to produce a political solution in Syria that stops the fighting and prevents conditions for a return of ISIS or another extremist group.

The UN Security Council is also due to meet Friday to address the situation in Idlib amid growing fears of an attack and the possible use of chemical weapons.

Russia, which has been building up forces in the region, said it's only targeting al-Qaeda fighters, and accused the USA of preparing to fake a chemical attack to justify new intervention.

Turkey also doesn't want to see another Kurdish-controlled area rise along its border, as it already faces in northern Iraq.

As the conflict approaches its endgame, Iran, Turkey and Russian Federation are seeking to safeguard their own interests after investing heavily militarily and diplomatically in Syria.

"The Trump Administration and the worldwide community have made it clear that there is no military solution to the Syrian conflict", Haley told the Council, which was to hold another meeting Friday on the crisis in Idlib. While Idlib is expected to top the agenda, the trio are also expected to discuss mechanisms for minimizing the impact of USA financial pressure.
