CLEVELAND After Browns coach Hue Jackson repeatedly insisted wide receiver Josh Gordon wouldn't start Sunday's season opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Gordon started anyway. In his first season a year ago, Conner recorded 144 yards in 14 games.

Bitonio could have never imagined playing on an 0-16 team, either, but that's what happened last season when the Browns went through their entire schedule without posting a win.

Noticeably absent from the action, though, was Steelers star running back Le'Veon Bell. Watt had two quarterback hurries but was unable to sack Brady. Watson fumbled on the first offensive snap of the season and closed the first half 5 for 13 with 61 yards, an interception and a fumble. He also rushed for 77 yards on eight carries and a touchdown.

Garoppolo finished 15 for 33 for 261 yards and a touchdown pass to rookie Dante Pettis.

But despite Taylor's struggles, Jackson crushed any speculation he's ready to turn his offense over to rookie Baker Mayfield anytime soon. Rookie Denzel Ward had two interceptions in his National Football League debut.

The Browns went three-and-out on their first three drives in overtime.

-Cincinnati came from behind to defeat Indianapolis 34-23. The half ended on that play. But after getting the ball back at their 1 with 43 seconds left, the Texans failed to reach midfield.

"A sour feeling", quarterback Tyrod Taylor said.

Fitzpatrick completed 21 of 28 passes and led the Bucs to scores on seven of their first nine possessions.

The Bucs did not punt until midway through the third quarter. Phillip Dorsett and James White also caught TD passes from Brady, the 41-year-old reigning NFL MVP.

-Carolina defeated Dallas 16-8. "He's continuing to get better as well". Dallas lost defensive end Randy Gregory to a concussion.

No matter if Haden or Sutton is at cornerback this Sunday, the Steelers secondary expects to be tested with deep passes from Chiefs first-year starting quarterback Patrick Mahomes. At that point, next score won the game but Cleveland went three-and-out yet again. Kansas City moved up 17 spots to draft Mahomes 10th overall in 2017. "I just was not sure if I was in the end zone or at the one yard line".

But while supporting his QB, Jackson acknowledged that Taylor underthrew receiver Josh Gordon on a potential big play and he needs to be more accurate.

Harrison wasn't the only offending Cleveland player as the Browns were called for 11 penalties for 87 yards.

Browns: DE Emmanuel Ogbah left briefly with an ankle injury in the first quarter but returned. He was replaced by Blaine Gabbert. Both TDs were to Stills, who caught four passes for 106 yards.

-Washington defeated Arizona 24-6. The Browns forced six turnovers on the day, which should have guaranteed them a win in regulation.
