[Tweets] 'Useless', 'Fraud', - Some Fans Tear Into Liverpool Star Despite PSG Win

  • Liverpool left-back Andrew Robertson did an impressive job keeping Paris St Germain’s Kylian Mbappe in check for most of their Champions League tie at Anfield

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said he "loved" Roberto Firmino's celebration of his injury-time winning goal against Paris St-Germain. But the heavyweight encounter of the evening was at Anfield, and the Group C match between last season's beaten finalists and the ambitious PSG lived up to expectations.

Daniel Sturridge and James Milner gave the hosts a 2-0 lead before Les Parisiens came roaring back thanks to strikes from Thomas Meunier and Kylian Mbappe but Liverpool would have the last laugh as Roberto Firmino netted the victor deep in injury-time.

Yet it was agonising for PSG, who had looked buried in the first half but showed character to claw themselves back on level terms.

"I think this year we're confident as a team".

James Milner doubled Liverpool's lead from the penalty spot six minutes later after Georginio Wijnaldum was failed by PSG's Juan Bernat.

While Liverpool found a late victor, questions have already been asked about the play of PSG star Neymar. But the French champions pulled one back before the interval through Thomas Meunier - the goal allowed to stand despite Edinson Cavani being offside in the build-up.

"He (his Dad) did joke when I signed for Liverpool that it was the first time he'd be happy to see me regularly in red..."

With less than 10 minutes left, Salah gave away the ball in his own end and Neymar delivered a flawless cross to Kylian Mbappe who got the equalizer.

Liverpool thought they had a third after the break when Mohamed Salah had the ball in the net but the effort was ruled out by referee Cuneyt Cakir who correctly ruled that Sturridge had fouled Areola when the pair scrapped for a loose ball.

Silva was in the right place to clear as Alexander-Arnold crossed, and with 20 minutes remaining Klopp made a change, with Firmino coming on in place of scorer Sturridge.

Firmino sealed victory for the Reds in their Champions League opener to stay on top of Group C.

Liverpool's Champions League win over Paris Saint-Germain proved they are on a par with Europe's best, according to Joe Gomez.

"But they were so in the game and it's not only that we fight a lot - and I love that - but we played football as well, and that looked really confident".

"When you have Bobby Firmino available, you actually always think 'come on, bring him",' said Klopp.
