"I was living in a time when someone who identified as a gay teenager would NOT be taken seriously by the police".

In addition to calling the allegations an attack by the "radical left" on his Supreme Court nominee (whom he referred to as a "fine man"), Trump also criticized Ford for not reporting the alleged attack, which occurred when she was just 15 years old.

Across Twitter, survivors themselves have taken on the hashtag #WhyIDidntReport to share their own assaults, and divulge why they themselves didn't say anything at the time they were assaulted.

Milano, 45, was one of first supporters of the #MeToo movement, becoming an unofficial spokeswoman for it worldwide. Trump said in a tweet Friday.

"I have no doubt that, if the attack on Dr. Ford was as bad as she says, charges would have been immediately filed with local Law Enforcement Authorities by either her or her loving parents", Trump tweeted on Friday. "I ask that she bring those filings forward so that we can learn date, time, and place!"

"Telling our stories means being vulnerable to public attacks and ridicule when our only "crime" was to be assaulted in the first place", Milano wrote. "Afraid. His parents were richer & better connected than my parents", Abigail Hauslohner, a reporter for the Washington Post wrote on Twitter.

In another tweet, he voiced opposition to an FBI investigation into Ford's claims, something that was done after similar accusations were made in 1991 by Anita Hill against then-nominee Clarence Thomas.

We hope these women's fearless act of coming forward will put to rest questions of why some people take long to tell their #MeToo stories - and why so many others never do. Others said they felt ashamed or embarrassed about their role in the situation, thinking they "asked for" the assault or didn't do enough to stop it themselves.

According to Department of Justice figures from 2016, 77.1 percent of people claiming to be victims of sexual assault did not report the matter to the police. She threw her support behind Ford and told Trump to pay attention to the stories being told. "Little did I know she was acting out because she was a victim too".

Sexual assault can leave long-term effects on victims, including post-traumatic stress disorder, severe anxiety, depression and suicidal thoughts, an anti-sexual assault group founded by "Law and Order" actress Mariska Hargitay.

"It took me years after my assault to voice the experience to my closest friends".

Pardon me that this might come off as a set of interview questions from a person of privilege here but I was stunned to see this.

For their part, Democrats say Republicans are mounting an unseemly rush to get Kavanaugh into the nine-member Supreme Court while they still control the legislature.

In addition to Milano's response, women are replying or retweeting Trump and sharing their own experiences, some using the trending hashtag #WhyIDidntReport.

And once again, survivors are having to rehash their traumas as proof for people who refuse to believe them.
