Rashford opened the scoring early in the second half as the Three Lions looked to get back to winnings ways after a disappointing defeat to Spain last Saturday.

Leicester: England manager Gareth Southgate recognised his side have vast room for improvement despite bouncing back from three consecutive defeats as a much-changed team edged past Switzerland for a 1-0 friendly win thanks to Marcus Rashford's victor.

"I'm really pleased for him more than anything", Southgate told Sky Sports after the 20-year-old scored his fifth global goal.

England didn't get off the best start in the first half after making nine changes from their game against Spain, but Southgate made a few tweaks for the second half before Rashford's 54th-minute victor.

Switzerland had their chances in the first half, with Xherdan Shaqiri hitting the outside of the post from inside the box after seven minutes.

Harry Maguire and Danny Rose have admitted that there were heated words between the England players in the dressing room during friendly with Switzerland on Tuesday evening.

"It was a tall order to ask them to go in and play against a really good side in Switzerland, who are an excellent team". We want to have an environment that's demanding because that's the only way we can keep raising the standards.

The game was also a reminder of just how unbearable the England band are.

'All of us weren't happy with the performance at half-time, gave them a little bit too much respect with the ball.
