But now we can finally see if the wait has been worth it or whether the rumoured troubles were true, as the very first trailer for X-Men: Dark Phoenix has finally dropped online! X-Men: Apocalypse was frankly a disaster of a movie to this viewer, and yet it utilised my favourite X-Men villain from the comics. The company has been waning in the world of superhero blockbusters, but the new addition shows that it still has ground to cover with its mutant-filled universe. Both X-Men: Days of Future Past and the absolutely bad follow-up X-Men: Apocalypse, essentially blew-up the film franchise timeline as we previously knew it. After a mission in space goes wrong, Jean Grey returns as a changed person.

Fox is taking their second shot at bringing the Dark Phoenix character to life, and this time, it looks like they got it right.

However, there was quite a stir happening about "Dark Phoenix" yesterday, with rumours of a trailer arriving very soon. The Fox made X-Men movies have been up and down for me, with more down than up.

X-Men Dark Phoenix Jean

What's the evidence? Well, there's not a ton of Lawrence in the trailer and she's one of the most in-demand actresses working today, so it would make sense if she had a minor but key role in the film. Jean's backstory is briefly touched on, and Professor X's immoral, but necessary, manipulation of her powers is also briefly displayed. With the two personalities fighting for control over her, it is now upto X-Men to save Jean from herself. As such, we've gone through the trailer and pulled out 50 screengrabs to take a closer look at what's in store for audiences when the follow-up hits theaters next Valentine's Day. I am not expecting anything special from Dark Phoenix and yet they have a great opportunity here, by knowing this is the end.

Turner revealed the clip on last night's Late Late Show with James Corden, ahead of the movie's release next February.
