'Better Be Careful.' President Trump Warns Tech Companies After Google Tweets

  • Trump attacks Google, claims it prioritizes 'fake news' in searches

In a statement, the company said political sentiment is not in play.

Trump's accusations, in which he once again takes aim at a huge tech company (breathe easy for a day, Amazon), were serious enough that he promised an investigation into the "RIGGED" results for searches of "Trump News", which returned mostly stories from the "Fake News Media". Fake CNN is prominent.

The pair of morning tweets appeared to be a reprise of a post from over the weekend on conservative blog PJ Media.

According to Trump, "96% of results on "Trump News" are from National Left-Wing Media", which he describes as "very unsafe".

In a subsequent tweet, he said "Google & others are suppressing voices of Conservatives and hiding information and news that is good". Every year, we issue hundreds of improvements to our algorithms to ensure they surface high-quality content in response to users' queries.

Previously President Trump has called the press "the enemy of the people", "very unsafe and sick" and "fake news".

While the exact science behind Google searches on the internet is kept secret, its basic principles are widely known to be generated with a variety of factors measured by the company's algorithms.

The firm has revealed that a user's search history will affect the results, so it is possible that Trump's focus on negative stories about himself skewed his search.

There are many other reasons PJ Media didn't see certain conservative publications in the top 100 results in their survey, based on how the Google News algorithm works, and the specific moments in which the searches were conducted.

"The real question behind the question is, 'Are we doing something according to political ideology or viewpoints?' And we are not". It's not a stretch to say that merely stating the Trump administration's actions is enough to make it look bad.

The president isn't shy about hurling attacks against others on Twitter.

'We will look into this discriminatory and illegal practice at once!

It's also not obvious what law Trump believes the platform's management might be violating. Twitter denied the claim. The context was, the midst of algorithmic changes that impacted traffic for many publishers on Facebook, Diamond and Silk had said that their traffic was falling, which was proof of Facebook's anti-conservative bias. The hearings mark the second time representatives from all the companies will be on Capitol Hill to address concerns of election interference.

Trump has lashed recently out about alleged discrimination against conservative voices, claiming last month that he would investigate Twitter for "shadow-banning prominent Republicans", a claim that has yet to be substantiated.

Trump has long criticized news media coverage of him, frequently using the term fake news to describe critical reports.

"What he doesn't like is the news", Smith said on his show.

First, Trump is complaining that the top results are from "Fake News". "Not a thing, but a thing", Smith said.

The first page results of "Trump" using Google's "News" tab on Tuesday, Aug. 28.
