  • LeBron to Lakers Has

LeBron James decides to go west, signing a four-year, $154 million deal with the Los Angeles Lakers. He reportedly wants to play for the Lakers, but he is still under contract to the Spurs.

The Knicks and Clippers were also mentioned as possible destinations but in the end, James opted for Los Angeles, who are run by former Lakers great Magic Johnson.

Even without Paul George, who agreed to re-sign with the Oklahoma City Thunder, that makes the Lakers an instant contender.

In 2014 however, he finally returned to his roots and rejoined the Cavaliers where he has been for the past four years.

Once James committed to the Lakers, Stephenson was a top player on the team's priority list.

The team didn't wait long to announce their next move. The team was projected to have a little under $50 million to hand out.

James isn't expected to attend the meeting, which is the first significant chance for the 76ers to make a free-agent pitch to James, league sources said. San Antonio isn't going to give him away at a discount, but the Lakers hold some leverage considering Leonard will be an unrestricted free agent anyway in 2019.

He was the difference between annual title contention and residence in Eastern Conference purgatory, and it stands to reason his departure will send Cleveland back into rebuilding mode as the franchise deals with another changing of the guard. "We look forward to the retirement of the famous #23 Cavs jersey one day down the line..." Stephenson played in 82 games for the Pacers last season, averaging 9.2 points in 22.6 minutes per game. He was a 10-time All-Star, a three-time All-Star MVP, two-time league MVP and, most memorably, the 2016 NBA Finals MVP. James helped seal a Game 7 win with a chase-down block of Andre Iguodala, the signature moment of a career that has shown no signs of decay. The best the two teams can do is meet in the Western Conference Finals.

James chose to become a free agent after his second stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers in which he made good on his promise to bring a championship title to what is essentially his home town, having grown up in Akron, Ohio.

A couple years later, after word broke that he was leaving, he said goodbye on Instagram.

"Thank you Northeast Ohio for an incredible four seasons", James wrote. "This will always be home".
