Unai Emery believes Aaron Ramsey will stay at Arsenal

Wenger's longevity makes a coaching change at Arsenal much more momentous than it would be at nearly any other club, and so the question about how the new manager might change the club take on even more importance.

Arsenal are still hopeful Ramsey will stay - but the player recently said: "Talks are still ongoing, I've got nothing else to say about that. We are speaking about every decision for our club".

Atletico Madrid kicked off their 2018/19 season on Thursday with a 1-1 draw against Arsenal in Singapore, winning the subsequent penaly shootout 3-1.

"I'm not sure exactly (when a new contract will be agreed) - it's taken a bit of time so far so we'll have to wait and see".

"Arsenal knew who they were going to sign in Unai Emery".

'I want him to stay and I think he will stay'. Both sides started with unfamiliar line-ups but Arsenal were the dominant force in the first half before they were hit with a sucker-punch four minutes from the break. Today I think every player plays well in this big game, and this goal [by Smith Rowe] is very good for him and for the team. The Spaniard has said he will name five captains initially before making up his mind, and Ramsey made it clear he wouldn't shy away from the role.

The 27-year-old former Cardiff City midfielder, who joined the club in 2008, was excellent for the Gunners last season following loan spells with Nottingham Forest and Cardiff. "We always speak about how we can improve, how we can work together to give the club all the quality we can".

French forward Alexandre Lacazette was denied from close range on three occasions, including a full-length save by Atletico's Jan Oblak after good work from Smith Rowe.
