  • OnePlus 6 vs. Apple iPhone X

The possible launch of the new OnePlus 7 will be May/June 2019 to coincide with the 5G rollout and OnePlus enjoys a certain edge with its existing association with the chip maker Qualcomm. But future devices could be coming in more than just unlocked form as the 5G era creeps in. However, 5G is likely to be a major technological change in the next 3-4 years, and mobile phone manufacturers will start rolling out devices with support for the standards in the same timeframe. Additionally, Pete Lau has also confirmed the news that OnePlus plans on producing their first 5G smartphone, by next year. The company also chose London as the hub for the global unveiling of its latest handset, the OnePlus 6.

Another major move that OnePlus is planning to make is to be available in partnership with a U.S. carrier.

He did not specify which OnePlus model will be the first to launch with 5G support. Currently, they're focusing on direct sales but going with carrier sales will allow people to have a hands-on experience with whatever device will be sold before deciding on buying them. Lau isn't saying if the company has started talking with U.S. carriers for a potential partnership, but he's confident about a consistent, bloatware-free experience will continue to be available on its phones even if carriers try pre-install bloatware.

It's not been too long since OnePlus launched the OnePlus 6. But Lau's keynote address at the trade summit in China, where he was one of the guest speakers at the Global Device Summit panel discussion, certainly gets the ball rolling. The firm plancherait after the man on a compatible smartphone, which will be presented next year.

Other details on the 5G device from OnePlus is still unknown.
