  • Donald Trump's Pointless War of Words With Iran

It came hours after Iranian President Hassan Rouhani told the American leader that hostile policies toward his country could lead to "the mother of all wars".

President Trump late Sunday tweeted out to Iranian President Rouhani to never threaten the US again or face historic consequences.

Tensions between the United States and Iran have been at an all-time high in recent days after President Trump wrote an explosive tweet on Monday directed at Iran.

Mara noted that Trump also directed violent language toward North Korea - before meeting with Kim Jong Un in Singapore. We've been around for millennia & seen fall of empires, including our own, which lasted more than the life of some countries.

"But we're ready to make a real deal, not the deal that was done by the previous administration, which was a disaster".

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is praising President Donald Trump for his "strong stance" on Iran.

He speaks with them daily, she said, but declined to give any details about any steps Trump is looking to take with Iran.

There is little interest among United States lawmakers for a conflict with Iran.

Mr Rouhani also scoffed at Mr Trump's threat to halt Iranian oil exports, saying: "Anyone who understands the rudiments of politics doesn't say "we will stop Iran's oil exports".

Addressing a gathering of Iranian diplomats on Sunday, Rouhani said: "Mr Trump, don't play with the lion's tail, this would only lead to regret", state news agency IRNA reported.

Iranian hackers, meanwhile, were planning extensive cyberattacks on USA and European targets, prompting consideration of a US counterattack, multiple senior US officials told NBC News.

A long-time critic of the historic 2015 nuclear deal with Iran, Trump walked away from the agreement this May.

Mr Rouhani earlier said that war with Iran would be "the mother of all wars". "If America wants to take a serious step in this direction it will definitely be met with a reaction and equal countermeasures from Iran", he said.

Trump employed similarly heated rhetoric when responding to threats and missile tests by North Korea a year ago.

"The level of corruption welcomed under Iranian leaders shows that Iran is welcome under something that resembles the mafia more than the government", said Pompeo.

The tweet, which is likely to be construed as a threat of war among Tehran's hardliners, has echoes of Trump's "fire and fury" comments from last summer.

The statement from President Rouhani that set off Trump was a clear threat to the United States.
