Both Venus and Serena Williams and Roger Federer advanced Wednesday at Wimbledon.

Federer wasn´t the only former champion in peak form on Centre Court as seven-time victor Serena routed Bulgarian qualifier Viktoriya Tomova 6-1, 6-4.

Williams sisters Serena and Venus were also in action on Wednesday and booked their slots in the third round.

Caroline Wozniacki suffered fresh Wimbledon woe as the world number two suffered a shock 6-4, 1-6, 7-5 defeat against Ekaterina Makarova in the second round, before telling the Russian: "You won't go far".

"He played very well", Nadal said of his opponent.

"I think (what's) important when you want to serve well is your point-for-point mentality, saying, maybe, 'The first point is as important as a break point, ' so the concentration is the same", Federer explained. Venus reached her ninth Wimbledon final previous year, but the American star was denied a sixth title by Garbine Muguruza.

Katie Swan's Wimbledon run is over after she was beaten 0-6, 3-6 by 29th seed Mihaela Buzarnescu.

Former world number one Angelique Kerber said she was looking forward to her first grasscourt meeting with 18th seed Naomi Osaka in the third round of Wimbledon. She did the same to Dulgheru in a two-hour contest.

"Also I was excited to wear Uniqlo today".

Lucas Pouille became the latest seeded player to exit the men's draw after a 6-4, 6-2, 6-7 (8), 3-6, 6-2 defeat to Austrian qualifier Dennis Novak.

Marin Cilic briefly resumed his match with Guido Pella on No. 1 Court, but another shower saw them depart with the third-seeded Croatian leading 6-3, 6-1, 3-4 - a break down in the third set.

"What I know from knockout play throughout the course of my career is (that) you can't afford to come in lethargic", Federer said. "Now I'm cheering for England".

He reached the third round of a grand slam for the first time.

England meet Sweden in the quarter-finals on Saturday, a game that could potentially clash with Edmund's fourth-round match, should the British number one make it.
