The operation resumed after a 10-hour hiatus.

Emergency crews in Thailand brought a second group of four boys to safety on Monday, more than two weeks after 12 boys and their soccer coach were trapped in a flooded cave network.

Monday's operation began at 11 a.m. and took nine hours, two fewer than Sunday, with rescuers helped by the experience they've accumulated, Narongsak told a news conference punctuated with rounds of applause. "We worked faster. I'm so happy", Narongsak said.

But he could not confirm if all five would come out today. Authorities have repeatedly said the rain could re-flood crucial parts of the cave complex that have been drained and make the escape route march harder or even impossible to navigate.

An eighth boy has been rescued from a flooded cave in Thailand.

The boys are being guided out of the cave by two divers with oxygen tanks. Last Monday they were discovered huddled on a narrow rock shelf deep within the flooded cave system.

The four were undergoing medical checks in hospital and were not yet allowed close contact with relatives due to fear of infections.

According to the Thai Navy Seal Facebook page, the four rescue divers and one doctor are yet to emerge from the cave. Monsoon flooding blocked off their escape and prevented rescuers from finding them for nearly 10 days. More than 100 rescuers, including 18 divers, were involved in Monday's rescue effort.

"The divers that were assembled from many countries are proud to have conducted this operation until its success", Narongsak said.

There the boys can rest before making the last, easier walk out to the entrance.

Authorities have said extracting the entire team from the cave could take up to four days.

Each had to wear an oxygen mask to enable normal breathing, authorities said.

Narongsak said rescuers had to tighten a guide rope as part of their preparations for the second phase of the rescue on Monday.

Among those are United States military partners, British cave diving experts - including the two men who first located the boys a week ago - and rescue workers from Australia, China and other countries.

Narongsak said that the "same multinational team" that went into the cave on Sunday to retrieve the first four boys was deployed on Monday.

Pad Krapao is a basil rice meal with stir-fried pork or chicken, topped with a fried egg.

Shortly after, ambulances were seen racing toward the nearby city of Chiang Rai down roads that had been cleared of traffic to smooth the journey.

While the boys have been rescued from the cave, parents haven't actually gotten a chance to meet with them.

Sunday night, teams of divers brought out four of the trapped boys to waiting ambulances.
