Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, democratic socialist, beats 10-term incumbent in NYC primary

  • 3 young progressives look to topple longtime incumbents in New York’s Tuesday primaries

She graduated from Boston University in 2011, and worked in US Senator Edward M. Kennedy's office.

Ocasio-Cortez says her first goal, if elected to the House (an nearly sure thing), is to introduce legislation abolishing ICE, a bridge too far for even Bernie, but a romanticized goal among the online far-left monster given life by Dr. Bernie Frankenstein. She had just one-tenth of the funds the incumbent had at his disposal, yet her radical progressive agenda clearly paid off.

Experts say she may be a novice, but she ran a spirited campaign against an opponent who took the campaign for granted, especially considering she was outspent 18 to 1. Asked why she thought her message resonated with voters, Ocasio-Cortez said, "I think a lot of working-class Americans and voters here have been waiting for an unapologetic champion for economic, social and racial dignity in the United States".

Ocasio-Cortez won the 14th district in NY which includes Queens and a portion of the Bronx. The district, which encompasses parts of Queens and the Bronx and is about half Hispanic, leans deeply Democratic and her primary win all but assures she'll soon be the youngest woman ever elected to Congress.

"She answered the call", he said, adding that people who know her are "collectively beaming with pride". She inspired people power.

Ocasio-Cortez is a member of the Democratic Socialists of America.

In particular, foreign dignitaries have stayed at the president's Washington D.C. hotel and the Republican National Committee has also held lucrative fundraisers at the Trump establishment.

It all started after President Trump posted a ludicrous tweet, claiming Crowley lost because he wasn't nice enough to the far right extremist president. "It is a different district, and ultimately people want to be represented by someone who looks more like them".

Ocasio-Cortez and Sullivan were both student speakers at BU's Martin Luther King Jr.

Greer noted the big differences between Ocasio-Cortez's race and the gubernatorial primary, and said Cuomo's move to the left shows he recognizes the risk of a progressive insurgency, even if he won't admit it. "In this moment, how am I great?"

Though a political newcomer, Ocasio-Cortez does have some experience in the political world. "I think it's two things: one is disappointment for Joe, stunned, and very curious about whether there's any takeaway", he said.

Igor Lukes, a BU global relations professor, recalls teaching Ocasio-Cortez in his class "Power and Legitimacy" in 2010. She then said: "We meet a machine with a movement, and that is what we have done today", she said, barely containing her enthusiasm. "Excited to have spent it with @Ocasio2018 celebrating her historic win".

Sanders himself cheered Ocasio-Cortez's victory, saying Wednesday on MSNBC's "Andrea Mitchell Reports" that progressive ideals are winning and "happening all across the country". It's real. She wrote it. We're no better than anybody else, but we stand for election. If she were perceived to be any kind of threat, the machine would have simply kept her off the ballot, the time-honored way dissidents are thwarted in Queens.

When thinking about Ocasio-Cortez and her time in Boston, Lukes considered the proverb: Success has many fathers, failure is an orphan. "I just felt like we were at a point where we couldn't afford to ignore politics anymore".
