President Donald Trump on Saturday continued to try to capitalize on the Justice Department's internal watchdog report on the department's handling of the Hillary Clinton email probe in an attempt to discredit special counsel Robert Mueller's Russian Federation investigation.

The president's attorney tells CNN's "State of the Union" that issuing a pardon now is not necessary and could cloud what Giuliani believes is a "very clear picture of an extremely unfair investigation with no criminality involved in it of any kind".

Manafort is accused of witness tampering in a criminal case that stems from his lobbying efforts for Ukraine years before he was a top Trump aide for almost five months during the 2016 campaign.

Peter Strzok, the FBI agent who oversaw the investigation into Democrat Hillary Clinton's personal email server during her tenure as secretary of state, worked on the Russian Federation probe but was taken off the investigation after his personal criticisms of Trump in text messages to a colleague were published. Ukrainian parliamentarian Andrii Artemenko, a witness in the Russian Federation investigation who testified before the grand jury, told ABC News that numerous questions from Mueller's team focused on Cohen and his relationship with Russian Federation. What about Comey and Crooked Hillary and all of the others?

Democrats said the inspector general's report blames some of the botched decision-making at the Federal Bureau of Investigation on then-Director James Comey's desire to go public with information about the status of the Clinton probe.

Giuliani pointed to "troubling unethical behavior" among some Justice Department (DOJ) officials that he said had tainted Muller's probe.

The president weighed in Sunday on Twitter with his opinion of the Mueller probe, again calling it a "WITCH HUNT!" and declaring that law enforcement officials had a "Double Standard!" in their investigations of him and Hillary Clinton.

"I certainly didn't know about it", Giuliani said.

Signaling some openness to a Trump interview with Mueller's team, Giuliani outlined the possibility under narrow conditions and said he expected Trump to make a decision by July 4.

"This is a case where it's crying out for someone to investigate the investigators", Giuliani said. "The president wants to do it".

The Washington Post reported Sunday that Mueller is pressing to wrap up his findings by the end of summer and, in the words of former Republican leader Newt Gingrich, Trump and his allies were "prepared for war".

"I doubt it", he said. "It is news to me".
