Mexico will advance to the last 16 for the seventh straight World Cup should Sweden beat Germany in Saturday's final game, which starts at 1 o'clock local time.

South Korea have now gone eight World Cup matches without a win - going back to the group stages of 2010 - and face the daunting prospect of Germany in their final group game.

Mexico took a 1-0 lead over South Korea from the penalty spot after a handball was called in the penalty area, and the Group F leaders doubled their advantage with a historic goal from Javier Hernandez.

"We talked about how to not fall into the comfort zone and rest on our laurels", said Osorio in the prematch news conference.

"The boys responded well and we'll be fine tomorrow".

When Osorio was told about those comments, he said: "We hadn't actually thought about it that way but that would be a very good thing if it plays in our favour".

"I think that's a great challenge for us and we are ready for it". The shutout was Mexico's sixth in its past eight games.

South Korea will now nearly certainly be playing for nothing more than pride in their final group game against Germany, while Mexico can look ahead with excitement and optimism.

And his appearances have not just been as a tribute, as you see towards the end of club seasons, with the 39-year-old still putting himself about shutting down games.

According to oddsmakers, Mexico is a -149 favorite to win on the moneyline.

South Korea will be eliminated if Sweden wins or draws.

"We have to keep playing as well as we did against Germany and we have to have the same mindset", Guardado said.

"They have a lot of strength, they are versatile, most of their players can play in different positions and in different systems".

The South Korean coach Shin Tae-Yong is expected to reshuffle their attacking formation into a 4-3-3.

"Our players I think played a game that they will not regret", he said. "There are used to the hot weather. the weather will probably affect us negatively".

Korea improved on their opening defeat by Sweden although their main tactic consisted of searching for Son with long balls behind the defensive line.

"Yes, it will be a hard game because we had a bad performance and a bad result in the first match and it'll be hard to turn around the atmosphere", he said.

Once Mexico went 1-0 up, their attacking job was over and the team came out in the second half with part two of their plan. "I do believe he is the best among all Asian players".

The closest they came to scoring in the first half was with a header from a corner which Mexico goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa tipped over the bar. If Germany lose to Sweden in the evening's Group F game at the Fisht Stadium in Sochi then Joachim Löw's side will be out.
