Apple iOS 12 public beta: How to install, top features, and more

  • Apple just released the first iOS 12 beta to everyone

If that sounds appealing, and you're not scared of inherent bugs, the iOS 12 public beta program is now officially open to all. The public beta will be supported on all iPhone, iPad, and iPad Touch models that can now run iOS 11. Do note iOS 12 public beta 1 is the same version as iOS 12 beta 2 for developers. All of those devices are turning five-years-old this year, so to see Apple supporting them with new iOS releases in 2018 is definitely an exciting thing. The company will likely update the beta software a few times between now and the official release, so be sure to keep an eye out for those as well.

Nowhere near as drastic a redesign as last year's iOS 11, the twelfth edition of Apple's popular mobile platform is primarily focused on improving your iPhone and iPad's system stability, speed and "digital health".

With iOS 12, you can expect faster and responsive performance, better notification management, screen time tracking, support for up to 32 people on FaceTime and better privacy features on Safari. Head over to Apple's beta website and download the configuration profile.

To download the public beta on a compatible iOS device, you'll need to enroll the device first. Screen Time also lets users limit access to specific apps.

CNET highlights the new features available on iOS 12 beta which include the AR app, Measure. But Apple is going to release betas every few weeks over the summer.

Those predictions are based on previous Apple release history and trying to predict future behavior based on historical patterns. The roster of Animoji characters that first debuted with the iPhone X has also expanded with a ghost, koala, tiger, and tyrannosaurus rex.

If not, using the new Control Center shortcut and toggling the feature off in camera settings (shown above) should fit the bill.
