In an interview recently, former Military President, General Babangida argued that immediate past President, Goodluck Jonathan who lost his re-election bid in March to President Muhammadu Buhari “is a very pleasant person” and that he believed the former president meant well for the country but his only problem was inexperience. Drawing inferences from IBB’s interview, INFORMATION NIGERIA bring you, five reasons IBB is right…

Without any doubt, every area of a nation’s life is important if development must take place, but you would agree with that Security, Power, are even more paramount…

1. With regards to power, the GEJ led administration succeeded in reducing power generation from 3000 mega watts, he inherited from from the late Musa Yar’Adua to 2000 mega watts, which he handed over to Buhari. INFORMATION NIGERIA recalls that in early 2011, when he was seeking to be elected as president, he said:

“If I’m voted into power, within the next four years, the issue of power will become a thing of the past. Four years is enough for anyone in power to make a significant improvement and if I can’t improve on power within this period, it then means I cannot do anything.” GEJ made this statement while speaking to diplomats at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, UNECA, and the African Union, AU, in Addis-Ababa

2. On security, the nation experienced the worst stinct under GEJ as innocent Nigerians died in their numbers at the hands of the ruthless Boko Haram terrorist – women and girls were abducted. It got as bad as, Nigerians became refugees in their own country. Nigerian started losing its sovereignty to these terrorists as some of Nigeria’s territories were captured by these insurgent.

3. Corruption was at its peak under GEJ. The extent of their corruption is now being exposed as many Ministers and top shots in his cabinet are currently under fire and questioning for corruption related offences. Recall how Lamido Sanusi, former CBN governor now Emir of Kano blew the whistle on the missing N20bn oil money. For this reason, GEJ sent Sanusi out of office instead of investigating the issue raised.

4. Neglect of other viable sector of the Nigerian economy: GEJ’s administration like many before him focused solely and only on oil instead of diversifying into other sectors like Agriculture, Mining, Tourism, Manucfacturing etc, which are as lucrative (or even more lucrative) than the oil sector.

5. On crude oil management, Jonathan looked like he had no grip on securing the pipelines with well-equipped security officers, as a result crude oil worth Billions in Dollars was stolen with reckless abandon.
